#Vcm 2 disc v81 software license
An IDS software license subscription (sold separately) provides access to the software which uses the VCM II hardware to perform vehicle diagnostics. This device is the core of vehicle diagnostics. The VCM II communicates with Ford and Lincoln vehicles via the 16-pin diagnostic link. The VCM II is required to complete key & immobiliser functions on Fords from mid 2011 onwards. The VCM II is designed to be used with only Ford software (subscription required). Enhancements have been made to the IDS software to integrate the VCM II and allow both VCM and VCM II to function with existing IDS PCs.

The VCM II is a direct replacement for the original VCM I and offers additional benefits and a lower cost of ownership over the current VCM. It is supposed to be backward compatible and so far, the bugs seem to be worked out. The VCM2is a newcomer with capability for the newer Can systems expected to come out on newer cars. Ford has 2 different interfaces, the VCM which is the factory scan tool from 1996 thru 2013. It was built by Teradyne and was later serviced by Snap-on.

IDS first started in 1996 using a vehicle communication interface or module called the VCM. It is the current scan tool for 1996 to present Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles. The Ford IDS (Integrated Diagnostic System) is a laptop based scan tool. New version for V96, If works with wifi for V86 software!
